Data collection

We collect different types of data depending on how you use our services. These include:

  • Contact details: Your name, email address, postal code, and country of residence. Your address may be collected if required for specific home energy use cases.
  • CO₂ emissions and Energy consumption data: Information you provide through our mobile or web app questionnaires related to your CO2 emissions, home energy and mobility use, depending on the use case.
  • Location data: Collected only if you use mobility-related features and grant permission for location tracking in the app.
  • Smartmeter data: Collected from third-party only if you use home energy-related features and grant permission in the app.
  • Analytic and technical feedback data: Information about your app and web usage, including screen views and any issues you encounter.

Note: We only collect data when necessary for specific use cases, and always with your explicit permissions for mobility tracking or smartmeter data.

Purpose and Legal Basis of Processing

Depending on the use case you decided to participate in, we will process your personal data for the following purposes:

With Your Consent as Legal Basis:

  • To build your CO₂ profile and provide insights into your emissions.
  • To provide you relevant metrics during our in-app gamification campaigns.
  • To build a digital twin of your home and recommend an energy efficient renovation path.
  • To potentially suggest relevant products and services from our partners that may help you reduce your emissions.

Based on Legitimate Interest:

  • To analyse user data in aggregate form to identify popular emission reduction measures.
  • To identify and fix issues in our apps and website through analytics, improving your overall user experience.
  • To improve the product and our algorithms.
Categories of Data Recipients

We may share your personal data with:

  • Technology partners who help with security, storage, data analysis, and message delivery.
  • Commercial partners: On occasion, we may suggest a commercial provider from whom you may want to purchase products or services. If we recommend a product or service from a partner, we will ask for your explicit permission in the app before sharing your details.
Data transfers

Your personal data may be transferred to third countries or parties outside the European Union when sharing to technology partners. These transfers are conducted in accordance with applicable data protection laws and safeguards, using legal mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Data Retention
  • We retain your personal data until you request deletion or close your Scone account. You can do this at any time through the app (in the settings/account settings menu) or by emailing [email protected].
  • Your personal data will be deleted at most one year after you become inactive on our platform.
  • If you join through a partner,  your account might be closed at a pre-defined time after sign-up. Regardless of this, we will always delete your personal data at your request or one year after inactivity.
  • We commit to deleting data immediately once it is no longer needed for the purposes described, in line with the data minimisation principle of the GDPR.
Newsletter/Marketing Subscriptions
  • If you subscribe to our newsletter or other marketing channels, we will retain your email address solely for the purpose of sending you updates and information, even if you become inactive on our app and your other data is deleted from our platform. Your contact data will be stored until you choose to unsubscribe. If you joined through a partner, your contact details may also be deleted alongside other data if agreed upon with the partner.
  • You can unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in every newsletter, or by contacting us directly at [email protected].

In any case, we commit to deleting data immediately once it is no longer needed for the purposes described, in line with the data minimization principle of the GDPR.
