3. Click on “join” the challenge on the app’s home screen

3. What is the energy survey and why should I answer it?

The energy survey allows the Scone app to analyse your home to provide you with detailed information on the impact of your actions, such as energy, cost, and CO2 savings. After successfully completing the survey, you will also be shown a renovation plan under the ‘Renovations’ tab in the bottom navigation bar, which you can use to significantly improve the energy efficiency of your home.

4. Why can I pause answering the survey and how can I get back to it after a pause?

The survey consists of several questions and takes about 5 minutes to complete. You can pause it if you do not have enough time. To return to it and finish answering it, simply click on the banner ‘You are almost there’, which is displayed on the home screen, in the challenge, and in the ‘Renovations’ tab.

5. What are the daily actions and micro challenges?

The daily actions and micro challenges are designed to help you build and strengthen new energy-saving routines during the challenge period. In doing so, we follow a common principle from the theory of behavioural change: ‘It takes 4 weeks of practice to develop new sustainable habits’.

6. How will I be reminded of the daily actions and micro challenges?

Click on “Allow Scone to send push notifications” after the sign up if you want to receive reminders to complete your daily actions and participate in new micro challenges. You can also activate and deactivate push notifications at any time under Settings > Notifications > App notifications.

7. What are leaves and coins?
  • Leaves: Display the impact you can achieve with your actions and how much progress you have already made in the challenge. Earn them by completing daily actions, streaks, badges, and participating in quizzes.
  • Coins: Are the official currency in the Scone app and can be redeemed for wallet prizes or used to maintain a ‘streak’ of consistent number of days where you earn leaves. Leaves convert to coins at a 10:1 ratio.
8. Who wins in this challenge?

There are two prize categories:

  • Leaderboard Prizes: Top 3 participants receive Virgin Experience Vouchers, and those in positions 4-10 get FairBuds.
  • Wallet Prizes: Exchange your earned coins for vouchers from brands like Lush, Abel & Cole, Amazon, and more.
7. Where can I see my challenge rank and how can I improve it?

You can view your current challenge rank in relation to the other participants on the challenge main screen under ‘leaderboard’. To improve your rank maximize your leaves by completing daily actions, maintaining streaks, earning badges, and engaging in quizzes. The more active you are, the higher your chances!

8. How does Scone prevent cheating?

We closely monitor the competition and track patterns to ensure fair play. Any suspicious activity will be reviewed, and participants may be contacted. We reserve the right to exclude anyone not playing fair, to keep the challenge fun and fair for all.

9. How and when will I receive my prizes after the challenge has ended?

Both leaderboard and wallet prizes will be distributed when the challenge concludes. In some cases, we may reach out to ask for your address. Digital vouchers will be sent to the email address used to sign up in the Scone app.

10. What is the app's ‘feed tab’?

In the app feed, Scone team members post helpful energy-saving tips and set small micro-challenges. You can respond to these directly in a thread to earn extra leaves and improve your leaderboard rank. You can also use the feed to communicate with other participants and celebrate sustainable achievements.

11. What is the personalised energy renovation plan?

The personalised energy renovation plan is a tailor-made recommendation on how you can best improve the energy efficiency of your home to save costs, increase the property value, and protect the planet. You can view it after successfully answering the energy questionnaire under the ‘renovations’ tab.

12. Why can I download the renovation plan as PDF?

You can download the renovation plan in PDF format for further use after the challenge has ended, e.g. to talk to an energy expert and obtain cost estimates from tradesmen and installers, if you are planing to carry out renovations.

13. Can I use the renovation plan as an official EPC document?

The EPC rating in your renovation plan is expressly indicative and cannot be used as an official EPC certificate, for example when selling a house in the UK. Only a certified energy expert who comes on site can prepare and issue an official EPC certificate.

14. How is the data collected used and can it affect my insurance plan?

The data collected will be fully encrypted and cannot be traced back to individuals. We use it to evaluate the overall participants progress during the challenge and to improve our app. Under no circumstances will neither your performance nor the data collected affect your insurance plan.
